Search engine optimization (SEO) Defined

Search engine optimization or SEO, is the process of increasing the amount of visitors to a website by ranking high in the search results of a search engine. The higher a website ranks in the results of a search, the more likely it is to be visited.

Search Engine Optimization helps to ensure that a site is accessible to a search engine and improves the chances that the site will be found by the search engine.

Major Search Engines

Search Engines: work by sending out a spider to fetch as many documents as possible. Another program, called an indexer, then reads these documents and creates an index based on the words contained in each document.

Keywords, Meta Tags, and Descriptions

Everyone knows that keywords are the primary element in the success or failure for your search engine rankings or placement. Most people believe that if you brainstorm a few of your business keywords, type them into the keyword description and the keyword meta tags, that the phone will instantly start ringing, the bank account will begin growing, and you can retire to Hawaii within a year. Wouldn’t that be wonderful?

Unfortunately, it is not that easy. Keyword brainstorming for your website is a great start. It often gets the creative juices flowing for word options to explore, but lacks measurable data to confirm the actual opportunity.
